What might be
possible?
Factual memory can preserve what happened. It cannot, by itself, systematically explore what might follow from what happened. Dream PP is the second epistemic system that does — behind a firewall that keeps imagination from ever becoming fact by accident.

Stage 01
Why Dream exists
A brain that only records what happened is a perfect historian and a poor scientist. It can answer “what is true?” It cannot ask “what would happen if?”
Dream exists to explore that space deliberately — to recombine what the brain knows into hypotheses, counterfactuals, analogies, and candidate structures that were never directly observed. The value is not that dreams are true. The value is that a testable guess, clearly labeled as a guess, can point the next experiment somewhere useful.
Stage 02
What enters Dream
Dream never receives the raw archive wholesale. A Dream Substrate Builder assembles a bounded, reproducible bundle — hard-capped so the model is never flooded — from three tiers:
Factual anchors
Seed memories selected by a thematic topic, entity, or coverage-gap lead — never by a mind name.
Provenance source excerpts
The raw evidence behind those anchors, followed through DERIVED_FROM edges — detail that compression discarded.
Deliberately unabsorbed evidence
Raw evidence with no path to a derived memory — the connections Strict PP never made.
Every bundle records a substrate-diversity snapshot (parents, raw sources, projects, time span, unabsorbed fraction, mean graph distance), so later evaluation can separate model failure from substrate failure from sampling failure.

All output is written to a synthetic namespace. None of it is a factual claim.
Stage 04
The reality firewall
Every dream begins as IMAGINED. The firewall is structural, not stylistic: the generation engine has no handle to a factual writer, so it is incapable of polluting canonical truth even if it tried.
- Synthetic content lives in an IMAGINED namespace.
- It remains UNTESTED.
- It carries confidenceAsFact = 0.
- Parent lineage is preserved (every dream traces to its evidence).
- It never silently contaminates factual canonical truth.
Dream output is never judged on truth. Evaluation uses novelty, diversity, conceptual distance, coherence, lineage traceability, hypothesis productivity, testability, and corroboration rate.
Stage 05
How Dream earns reality
There is exactly one legal path from imagination back to fact. It cannot be skipped:
A synthetic memory can only be promoted when independent evidence corroborates it — never by assertion, never by repetition, never by the model's own confidence.

Eight cognitive strains
The same engine under different rules for recombining memory. In the first divergence experiment, feeding identical history through all eight produced measurably different cognition: the counterfactual-bearing strains diverged sharply (novelty 0.003 → 0.33, testability 0.20 → 1.00) while lineage stayed intact at 1.000 across every strain.

The path to Dream
Dream PP is experimental. It builds on the factual foundation that Persistent Persistency is proving, and it advances only through the same evidence gate as everything else.

Phase 0 — Substrate & schedule
Wake PP continuously consolidates raw experience into factual memory. A coverage-aware scheduler targets under-represented areas, and the Dream Substrate Builder assembles bounded, reproducible bundles from anchors, provenance excerpts, graph neighbors, and unabsorbed evidence.

A deterministic, seeded generation engine that reads a substrate and writes synthetic memories through eight parameterised strains. Bounded, reproducible, and never given a handle to factual memory.

Phase 2 — Reality firewall
The IMAGINED class, the one-way flow, and the structural guarantee that synthetic material cannot be surfaced in a factual context. Demonstrated: every strain produced lineage-intact synthetic memories.

A corroboration detector watches later independent evidence for anything that vindicates a synthetic memory, driving the only legal transition: UNTESTED → CORROBORATED → PROMOTED, through experiment and evidence.

None of this loosens Strict PP. The verification rules are untouched. Dream runs only against a known coverage posture, and its only way back into fact is experiment → evidence.
